The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance within Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.
“In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive city for tourists due to its glorious past. In the present, in addition to its historic treasures the city also offers modern-day tourism,” Elkin said. “The inauguration of [this] tunnel project is a further part of the expansion of Jerusalem as a city. Jerusalem as well as its development into an attractive tourist city for all types of people throughout Israel as well as around the world.”
Elkin who’s ministry spearheaded the project along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry invested hundreds of millions of shekels annually in the development of Jerusalem’s tourism as well as in creating new ventures and attractions that will connect the magnificent historical past and future of Jerusalem.
