The Kerem Tunnel offers a unique trail and riding experience to the benefit of

The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s first bicycle tunnel, was opened as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel is located along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Mostza route. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.

The tunnel’s official opening ceremony, which is 2.1 kilometers long took place in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) and hundreds more cyclists.

Jerusalem was a sought-after tourist destination because of its glorious history. Elkin stated that the current tourism industry is one of Jerusalem’s historical treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. “The inauguration[of] the tunnel is an additional element of the progress of Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for all types throughout Israel as well as around the world.

Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that his ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of Jerusalem’s tourism in all its aspects and also in the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our eternal capital to its future… I invite cycling enthusiasts to join us and take a ride along the modern and well-maintained cycle route that overlooks the special landscape of Old Jerusalem.”

Elkin’s Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project. The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that “The Kerem Tunnel Project is a central tool to realize the dream to transform the concept of transport in Jerusalem.” נווה פריצקי “The tunnel is set to connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will connect with the various cycling routes that exist within the city. They will be laid within the diverse areas. The goal is to encourage cycling among the residents of Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move the main sewer line toward the Sorek purification plant.

Road construction, installation, blowers, sophisticated safety systems , and electrical wiring are all part of the current construction. The tunnel will be safe for public to use throughout the year.

It is also possible to use the Kerem Tunnel to enjoy unique recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem, the Biblical Zoo, aquarium, and the Ein Kerem neighborhood.
