Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that adopts a new approach to design The Freo X Ultra is a very well-built machine. The $1400 price tag may be hard to swallow but it is often available to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic, and the base occupies very little room in a corner.
robotic hoovers of this robot is a solution to some problems we’ve encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum cleaners, such as brushes that get tangled up in hair, and the vacuum brush not being able enough to reach the flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping capabilities are impressive on carpets as well as bare flooring. The vacuum/mop features a high level debris pickup and the mop can quickly saturate bare flooring.
The mops also use an intelligent system to clean along the edges of furniture and around walls. The robot is able to easily get around obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. It can get tangled or stuck with smaller, flatter objects such as shoelaces, USB cables and pens.
We used this robot to vacuum and mop a variety of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors within a large, open house floor plan. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in just 170 minutes, which is close to the average for Gen 4.
Several features distinguish this robot from other models in its class. The Freo X Ultra has a number of software, sensors and hardware improvements designed to keep it at the top of its game. It has been declared to have an autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments up to 260m2.

You can also change the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent or smart), or the mopping’s humidity. The app can detect heavily soiled spots and create an appropriate cleaning route. It can also distribute detergent and raise the carpet pads.
Other impressive features include a rapid charging battery, a clear display on the robot’s underside, and a convenient dock door that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is perfect for homeowners and apartment dwellers who wish to cut down on chores and keep their homes clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele has a track record of quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. This new model aims to take it to the next level by incorporating innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 has dual suction technology and intelligent navigation that includes 3D mapping and a camera that sends live images to your smartphone for easy control. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system offers excellent dust pickup on hard and carpet floors, while intuitive side brushes with a swing-out feature and two suction channels remove dust from corners. The 8.5 cm height means it can get under furniture that is low, and front cameras and infrared sensors assist it navigate around obstacles and thresholds with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it cleaned baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its 2,500Pa suction was weaker than other robots, but it was still very silent and moved swiftly. It didn’t clean, however, and its removable cleaning pads were fiddly to attach and couldn’t cope with dried-on dirt.
Its app lacks advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It works with Alexa but its voice controls don’t seem to be very intuitive or responsive. It’s also a bit flaky when it comes back to the charging station following an exercise. Other robots can follow an obstruction or follow a previous route however the RX3 stumbles around until it gives up.
We also had issues with the intelligent features of the device, namely its mapping feature and the digital stay-out zones. It was good at keeping our shoes and furniture legs away, but it was easily hanging up on cables, socks, and carpets. That’s the reason we didn’t choose to include it on our Best Buy list. With a decent price and a dazzling performance The Scout RX3 is worth considering when you’re looking for a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
